CONTEXT FOR THIS WRITE-UP

Preserved from the existing engineering journal. Code, records, and diagrams are illustrative. Historical performance figures in these notes are not independently reproduced benchmarks or current project claims.

01 — The Challenge

When financial data fails to sync across systems

Integrating a CRM with accounting software (Xero) and payment gateways (GoCardless) introduces complex data validation challenges. When temporary network failures, schema mismatches, or malformed user input occur, automated workflows can stall.

A credit note that fails to export or a direct debit payment that gets stuck in a pending state requires immediate investigation to maintain strict financial accuracy for clients.

02 — Debugging Strategy

Tracing discrepancies from UI to database

The first step in resolving any integration issue is validating the application state against the underlying database records. I rely heavily on SQL to investigate source-data inconsistencies.

By cross-referencing OOMI CRM records with the expected payloads for the Xero or GoCardless APIs, I can quickly pinpoint whether the failure originated from missing mandatory fields (like tax codes), data type mismatches, or integration timeouts.

03 — Resolution & Reprocessing

Restoring data integrity and workflow automation

Once the root cause is identified—such as correcting a malformed source record directly via SQL—the automated CRM workflows can be safely reprocessed.

This structured approach ensures that financial data syncs correctly without resorting to manual double-entry, preserving data integrity across the CRM, Xero, and GoCardless.
